Who Is The Program For?
The 4-Week On-Court Netball Conditioning Program is open to athletes aged 10 years and over, across all playing levels. It is ideal for athletes who are:
- Preparing to return to netball after the off-season
- Wanting to improve their netball-specific fitness
- Preparing for club, school or representative trials
- Looking to improve speed, agility and movement
- Wanting to feel fitter and more confident on court
- Building towards more demanding pre-season training
- Looking for structured conditioning alongside their existing training
Athletes do not need to be representative or performance-level players to participate. Activities can be progressed and adapted to appropriately challenge different ages and abilities.
Why Netball-Specific Conditioning?
Being able to run continuously is not the same as being netball fit. Netball requires athletes to repeatedly accelerate, stop, change direction, jump, land, defend, recover and then do it all again—often with very little rest.
The ability to perform these movements effectively throughout a game can influence an athlete's confidence, decision making and skill execution.
Our On-Court Conditioning Program focuses on preparing athletes for those specific demands rather than simply making them tired. The goal is to help athletes move well, work hard and recover quickly enough to do it again.
What Athletes Will Work On
Across the four-week program, athletes will be exposed to a variety of conditioning activities designed around the physical demands of netball.
Acceleration & Speed – Developing the ability to move quickly and purposefully. Athletes will work on:
- First-step acceleration
- Short-distance speed
- Explosive movement
- Reacting and moving quickly
- Repeated accelerations
Change Of Direction & Agility – Preparing athletes for the multidirectional nature of netball. Athletes will work on:
- Efficient changes of direction
- Deceleration and stopping
- Body control
- Reactive movement
- Court-specific movement patterns
Repeated Effort Conditioning – Developing the ability to keep working throughout training and competition. Athletes will work on:
- Repeated high-intensity efforts
- Short recovery periods
- Maintaining movement quality under fatigue
- Recovering between efforts
- Building overall work capacity
Netball Movement – Conditioning through movements athletes actually use on court. This may include:
- Driving and re-offering
- Defensive movement
- Transition running
- Jumping and landing
- Court movement patterns
- Change of pace
- Multi-directional movement
Fitness That Transfers To The Court
The purpose of the program isn't simply to make athletes fitter. It is to help them become fitter for netball.
Where appropriate, conditioning activities incorporate netball-specific movements, decision making and competitive elements so athletes learn to maintain movement quality and concentration as they fatigue. This helps bridge the gap between general fitness and being physically prepared to train and play.
Four Weeks Of Progressive Conditioning
The program is delivered across four structured sessions, with conditioning progressively developed throughout the block.
Athletes are encouraged to work at an intensity appropriate to their current fitness and ability while gradually challenging themselves as the program progresses. This makes the program suitable for athletes from different playing backgrounds while still providing an appropriate challenge for more experienced players.
Quality Movement Matters
Getting tired is easy. Training well while tired is much more valuable.
Throughout the program, NQNA coaches reinforce quality movement, body control and sound technique rather than encouraging athletes to simply push through poor movement for the sake of completing a session.
Athletes are encouraged to understand their bodies, recognise fatigue and develop the physical habits that support safe, effective performance.
Delivered By Experienced, Qualified Coaches
Sessions are delivered by experienced NQNA coaches who understand both athlete development and the physical demands of netball. Our Conditioning coaches are both Qualified and Experienced Netball coaches as wll as Strength & Conditioning coaches accredited with ASCA.
Our focus is on creating a positive but challenging environment where athletes can improve their fitness, movement and confidence regardless of their starting point. Every athlete is encouraged to challenge themselves against their own current capacity, rather than simply trying to keep up with somebody else.
Build Your Base Before The Season Begins
The off-season and early pre-season provide an ideal opportunity to rebuild physical capacity before the demands of regular training, trials and competition increase.
Four weeks of purposeful conditioning can help athletes return to their netball environment feeling better prepared, more confident and ready to train.
